Evaluation Question 1

Evaluation- Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
When researching about my song ‘Years’ By Alesso i found that it was part of something called EDM (Electronic Dance Music) when listening to the song i could tell straight away that the song’s target audience was obviously aimed at teenagers/young adults, this is because its upbeat and easy to dance too, it would be something you'd hear in a nightclub. i have always been influenced by this type of music, because of this it encouraged me to use my knowledge from this form of genre and apply it to my product. As i have shown on my blog their are many videos what influenced me throughout creating my product, Sebastian Ingrosso was a big influence throughout as his video replicates what i wanted to make of them creating the song and been a part of something new.
Here is one of the songs that had an influence on my video because of the way they go from different colour schemes throughout to then back to normal colour, i wanted to replicate my own video in a way to look like the way this ones set out, i loved the way they used city view around and time lapse driving which is whats involved within my music video.
When editing to this song everything fell into place, due to the shots i took at the beats what was in place at the time, i looked at the face that i had too fit everything to the beat. I had to look at the variety of mine en scene when looking at my song because i had to look into what type of styles i looked at when doing my song, and i think i picked a good choice.

When looking at what conventions i used throughout my music video i had some very successful ones for example different locations, yes, i had different costumes and different styles of people who fitted my criteria. the tables below show my success throughout my video when using the conventions.

Successful
Unsuccessful
Outside Location
Use of dance
Narrative
Powerful artist
Upbeat
Emotional
Verse chorus verse

Use of close up

LOCATION (conventional)

Conventional Locations to make my music video look electronic
My Conventional Locations

  • Time Lapse Days
  • Recording studio
  • Flashes
  • Lights
I had different ideas to make my music video fit into the convention of electronic dance music, for example i would use things such as the beach, in my house, establishing shot to make it look like he's been worldwide throughout the years, i have tried to fit a narrative within my music video by using different locations. by using these locations the consumers will hope to know by the music video that the genre i have chose is EDM. I have used time lapse a night where we can see fast moving traffic this a conventional location.

COSTUMES (conventional)

Conventional Costumes
My costumes when needed
  • Varied
  • Longline
  • Hats
  • Earphones
  • Jogging pants
when creating my music video there wasn't many costumes i had to use because the actor wasn't needed that much because of the song i chose this is good because i couldn't really get the costumes wrong because i didn't really need them, when i used the costumes i used things like jumpers hats etc. his mad my video look as realistic as it could.

Evaluation Q2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Throughout my Ancillary texts i have always used continuity throughout, when looking at them i have used the same fonts all of the time. When researching about fonts i came across a font that i liked very much, it is rudimental font with the black border around the outside, i tried a vary of fonts but when i saw this one i wanted to make sure i had it, it stands out and resembles the artist himself, big bold and wants to be big. When creating my digipak i made sure that i kept the font the same throughout, although i made the titles bolder than the actual sub titles. this give the album a great effect. even when i was creating my poster i made sure i kept it the same to show continuity throughout. Also i made sure i stuck to the colour scheme because it would've looked daft me having different colours from my digipak to my poster so i made sure i kept the the grey, white and black colour code, when creating my music video i tried to stick to continuity by creating some scenes in black and white but when coming to it, it didn't work for me.

When looking at continuity i had to make sure i had establishing shots throughout my music video, these are three examples of the establishing shots within my music video, these bring effect to my video as they are conventional locations, they make my video have realism throughout, they make my video stand out. also i have created them to have effects of them for example as you can see the middle one is really happy and nice and the right one is really dull making the audience think you have your ups and downs but you're going to come back from it, these make up a set of camera shots the left one has a time lapse the middle one has a pan on it and the right ones a still video shot. these all create effect as they're the shots that make the video as conventional as it is.

These are some of the flashing images within my music video, these show that the beat will fit right into the flashing images to make it look like its going with the song, this is good because it shows the audience that they have to read so it engages them t watch it. its rather the lyrics or the name of the song or the name of the artist, other than that its all lyrics, this effect features 4 times in my music video for effect. lyric videos are usually seen to have been brought out before the original video to put in as a placement, with mine i have mixed both together to create that effect on the audience.

My artist features minimal within my media product this is because when looking at other media products the artist doesn't feature as much as they would in something like a hip hop genre song, this is because EDM's (electronic dance music) is all about the atmosphere and how it gets the people going, however within mine I've made sure the costumes the same as it needs to look real and look like other real media texts.

With my digipak i had to make sure I made the artist stand out, i had to make it so everyone knows who he he is and what he's about, thats why i created this cube, the cube is now a symbol throughout my digipak and features throughout my cd and my poster this creates good effect because its not just the artist on the cd its him in his symbol its what everybody sees him as this is effective because people will now see the cube symbol and suddenly recognise that its MANCELING.

As you can see by the CD's they are still images from the music video this shows that i have generated the images from the music video and made them into a cd to create effect, this is good because likewise with the cover people will see the music video might not see who its by then look inside the cd and see the still images and remember it from the video this is good because its effective on the reader and what they see because they'll recognise my CD by the music video.

Overall, the combination of my ancillary texts and my Music Video combined are very effective, this is because i have used continuity and contrasted things from my music video to my ancillary, this is a good marketing scheme it makes the consumers recognise the artist by the way the Cd's set out, i have tried to replicate the video to the digipak, the way the digipak stands out is good because of the varied colours i have used, i have used the colour coordination what i had in mind for example black white and grey, i added a tint of pink to the digipak because i wanted to over emphasise the way the digipak looks and what it means, like its something good.

The way the poster reflects on both of them is good because it says where the consumers can buy the product. This is also a good marketing way because when they see the poster its effective as it will tell them where to go for it. the way it says in big bold lettering swell, OUT NOW this will tell the audience that they can buy it from when they see the poster as there is no date on it. The way the video reflects on the artist is good and effective this is because the audience will see him as having the utopia life.

Evaluation Q3

What have you learnt from audience feedback?

Throughout Constructing my product i had a series of audience feedback throughout, i had things such as, you should have some traffic in there, you should have some lyrics in there, i listened to the audience and constructed my product around my audience feedback and my target audience, i felt that i had pleased them by what i had done and they enjoyed the video. I took constructive criticism at the start and constructed my music video to fit round my audience.

this is a good way on how i got across to my audience (using a questionnaire) this gives my audience to think about what they want to write other than saying it to my face which then they have to think on the spot.

Your favourite music video?
Ago, Chris Brown

What was your FAVOURITE thing about my music video?
Transitions/Framing/Timings/Effects
Explain Why: Because i think the way the beat drops you have something there to show that the beat has dropped and it gets the audience engaged, its something thats creates realism in comparison to other music videos when looking at them, i would defiantly watch this again.

Whats could i improve?
You could improve the way in what transitions you use for example we see a lot of the fading to white, this could be changed for something such as cross dissolve or maybe even a ripple.

This is something that took on board throughout my music video, i used a variety of transitions, i have involved things such as fade to black and cross zoom this is good because it engages my peers a lot more, i have used a male for my first piece of feedback, this is due to me as a person id like someone on my wavelength to give me some feedback. This type of feedback is vital as it gives me something to use against my video as they're into the type of music i am.

Robbie Williams-Rock DJ

What was your FAVOURITE thing about my music video?
Transitions/Framing/Timings/Effects
Explain Why: I don't know how to judge something like this on behalf of the genre i listen too, i like a different type of music video, but the best thing about this music video is the framings, and how it is all pieced together.

Whats could i improve?
This isn't my kind of music video so i can't tell you about something compared to the real product but obviously when i watch something like this its not something i enjoy, id prefer a bigger narrative or something like that.

This type of feedback helped me a lot throughout making my product because this shows that my products target audience is not for 20+ people, this is good because my target audience was supposed to be for the teens and has successfully done that, it was also targeted at people who like house music.

What was your FAVOURITE thing about my music video?
Transitions/Framing/Timings/Effects
Explain Why:With me not watching many videos it comes cool to see when an effect added can do with the full music video.

Whats could i improve?
i can't judge on what has to improve as i don't really watch music videos but it is good, if i was to do it i would've included more of the actors.

This was the least helpful out of the three, purely because of the fact he doesn't watch music videos so i couldn't have a good opinion or take things off what he said but what he did say was that my actor should be involved a lot more, when i did some research and planning i found that the narrative of an house style music video is to show the audience the establishing shots and transport, this is used in other real media texts what i have gained ideas off.

Things i have gained from the audience feedback:
- My product shows realism throughout and engages the audience from start to finish
-My product has various effects and now has a lot of transitions
- My products timings and variety of colours throughout is useful and attracts the house genre target audience.
-my product appeals to my target audience only
- If i was to do this again i would make sure i had a range of transitions to show the audience the effect of all them throughout my work.

Evaluation Q4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Throughout creating my music video, I have used a range of technology. I have used this to create the different styles of cinematography within my music video, I have used a variety of online applications as well for example, Photoshop and I movie, I have used these the edit and create my music video and my digipak.

I have used a Sony Video recorder to capture most of my footage, to use this I always had it linked up to a tripod, with these two put together I captured a variety of shots and locations throughout, I have created my video by using cinematogoraphy throughout my work, by using this I will hopefully get marks for the amount of locations and cinematogoraphy I have used. However by using this Sony camera I had big problems when editing on Final Cut Pro, this was because it didn't read my file, this caused me problems because it then crashed halfway through making my first one, if i was to do this again I would make sure the video recorder is compatable with the computer, so I didn't have any technical faults, in this scenario I had to start from scratch on I movie, I did this because the type of format what the Sony camera gave me, the I movie application allowed it to be used within the video, by doing this it allowed me to fully complete my video.

Also I used a tripod while creating my music video, this allowed me to pan, tilt, zoom and extend, it also allows me to get the best angle on what shot I needed to make for example if I was to have a pan of the city, it would keep the stability straight so the video looks as professional as I can. The stability of the tripod allows the shot to not look as pixelated as the one from my iPhone.

Thirdly I used computer applications, such as photoshop, Photoshop allowed me too edit my digipak, this is something I needed to do as I created my cube what I used, I had to format a 3D object from a single picture, this allowed me then to create my CD cover, this was good as it created a good effect on my digipak, throughout using photoshop I used a range of tools, these where things such as quick select which allows me to select a piece of the layer that I wanted to change, also I used a tool such as fill, and shape, these allowed me too change the style of picture I want.

i have used prezzi also to engage with my research and planning, this has helped me to understand ways in which things are used, as it shows you when you're completed step by step so the audience understand what i have done step by step this is how i will understand what i need to do.
